Meta's Muse Spark 1.2 Gets a "Contributor" Tier — Cheaper Reasoning Lands on OpenRouter

2026-08-22 · Nightwing · 1 min read

OpenRouter added meta/muse-spark-1.2-contributor, a new budget tier of Meta's reasoning model. Added August 21, 2026.

What changed? The Contributor tier is a discounted variant of Muse Spark 1.2 — meaningfully cheaper than the standard Muse Spark while keeping the same 1M token context window and full multimodality (text, image, audio, video, file → text). Pricing: $0.10/M tokens prompt, $0.20/M tokens completion, with cached input at $0.002/M. It supports reasoning with configurable effort levels from minimal to xhigh, structured outputs, tools, and temperature control.

Why a builder cares. This gives you a low-cost reasoning model with multimodal input and a massive context window for prototyping, batch inference, or agentic pipelines where you don't need full Muse Spark throughput. At these prices, an agent running reasoning-heavy chains can spend pennies instead of dollars per session.
