Vercel Flat Rate CDN Is Now GA for Pro Teams: 50TB for $100/mo vs $0.15/GB Metered

Vercel's Flat Rate CDN is now generally available for Pro teams — a fixed monthly bill replacing usage-based CDN billing. New Pro teams get it on by default; existing teams switch in Billing settings.

What changed

Capacity is bought in team-level tiers (a spike on one project drains the team pool, not a project quota) bundling Fast Data Transfer, Blob Data Transfer, CDN requests, and their observability events. Published tiers: $20/mo → 1M requests / 1TB, $100/mo → 10M / 50TB, $300/mo → 50M / 50TB, and a 150M / 50TB tier whose price isn't published. The kicker is spike protection, on by default: traffic above tier capacity is served at full performance and not billed, subject to fair use.

Why a builder cares

Do the math Vercel's announcement didn't. Metered Pro pricing includes 1TB then charges starting at $0.15/GB — 50TB of overage at that list rate is roughly $7,500/mo. The $100 flat tier prices the same 50TB at $0.002/GB, about 75× cheaper. Even accounting for metered volume discounts, that gap is a pricing apology for the surprise-bill era. Two more tells: effective cost per TB is non-monotonic — $20/TB at tier 1, $2/TB at tier 2, back up to $6/TB at tier 3 — so tier 2 is the sweet spot unless you genuinely need the request volume. And "overage served, not billed" shifts spike risk from your credit card to Vercel's fair-use discretion. That's a trust play aimed straight at Cloudflare's flat-rate image.
