What shipped? GitHub Copilot now works as an agent inside Slack — public preview, shipping today.
What changed? Mention @GitHub in a DM, channel, or thread to start an agent session. Copilot can answer code questions, triage and create issues, investigate failures, implement changes in a secure cloud sandbox, and open pull requests — all from the conversation. It works asynchronously while you're away, and you can steer it from Slack or continue in your IDE later. GitHub is also a launch partner for Slack Code, the new agent-dedicated channel type. Copilot can spin up a code channel from any thread, keeping the task isolated and the original conversation clean. Inside the code channel, the whole team can follow plans, inspect diffs, review output artifacts, and iterate together.
Why does a builder care? This is the first time GitHub Copilot's agentic tier — the one that plans, codes, and debugs autonomously — is accessible from where your team already talks. No switching to a terminal or IDE to start a session. The Slack Code integration also means agent work becomes visible and collaborative by default instead of being a solo AI interaction someone screenshots into a channel later.
