Set Per-User Budgets on AI Gateway

Vercel AI Gateway budgets now support a user scope, so you can cap what an individual team member spends through the gateway. It lands alongside the existing team, project, and API key budget scopes.

What changed

A new budget scope is available in the AI Gateway dashboard and API. Where before you could only bound spend at the team, project, or key level, you can now set a per-user limit — with the same alerting and hard-cap behavior as other scopes. Combined scopes still apply, so a per-user cap and a project cap both enforce independently.

Why a builder cares

One rogue agent loop or runaway script keyed to someone's personal token can no longer blow a whole project budget. Per-user caps make AI Gateway viable for larger teams where individual access is shared across projects, and they close the gap where a single prolific contributor silently becomes the biggest line item.
